The future of unmanned flight


Developed by researchers at the University of Maryland, the Robo Raven III “is the first robotic bird that flies on batteries charged by on board solar cells.” Although the Robo Raven is not able to power itself exclusively from the energy generated from its flexible solar cells, engineers S.K. Gupta and Hugh Bruck envision a future when these solar-powered micro air vehicles (MAVs) will be able to cover near-limitless stretches of space and distance.
