The new trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens has managed to inspire hysteria not only among die hard Star Wars fans, but also companies eager to exploit any opportunity to associate their products with the franchise.
While it’s easy to dismiss such marketing ploys as nothing more than commercial opportunism, Japan’s All Nippon Airways plans to give one of their newest 787-9 Dreamliner jets an R2-D2 makeover is perhaps the grandest and coolest of them all.
Although the Japanese company’s aim is to capitalize on all the Star Wars hoopla in promoting their new service between Japan and Houston, emblazoning the jet’s nose with R2-D2’s characteristic blue stripes demands awe and respect. According to All Nippon Airways’ website, this jet is set to take off in Fall 2015.

With the excitement of seeing a respectfully aged Hans Solo and Wookie and the Millennium Falcon barreling into the thruster of a crashed Star Destroyer, I think we should all be ready to dare city planners to recreate an entire urban environment after Lando Calrissian’s Cloud City.
