iClever’s flagship Bluetooth Wireless 4.0 Speaker is a sleek and unassuming device that offers high quality sound at an affordable price.
The Pros and Cons of iClever’s Bluetooth Wireless Speaker
I’ve often found myself at work listening to music from my smartphone for no other reason than convenience. With all my music and favorite streaming services available on one device, accessing these either on a company desktop or laptop is not always the most desirable. Of course, the quality of sound coming from even the best smartphone or tablet speaker hardly makes for an immersive experience, and is reserved mostly for background noise.
When I received iClever’s wireless speaker for review, I was instantly doubtful of the quality of sound this device could possibly hope to produce. Upon first glance, however, I was impressed with its zinc-alloy build, blue trim, and grated speaker surface. The speaker feels sturdy, is easy to hold in your hand, and gives the impression the device is built to last.
After easily pairing the device with my smartphone, I tested the wireless speaker with Pandora and received clean acoustics and a satisfying base. I don’t say this lightly. I am an audiophile and sound quality is important. Obviously, this device’s 5W speaker won’t deliver Bose or Beats quality sound, but it’s damn good and pleasing to the ear. As a jazz enthusiast, I enjoyed the deep base of Charlie Mingus and the smooth sizzle of Clark Terry’s trumpet. Other genres of music played equally well.
Form and Function:
The default resting position of iClever’s wireless device has the speaker pointing upward, producing sound that easily fills bedroom-sized rooms. Unfortunately, in this position access to the volume and tracking controls is covered up (clearly, you are to use your phone for controlling volume and track selection). If you want a more directed stream of sound and access to the device’s control buttons, then it is possible to position the wireless speaker on its side. Although there is a slight rocking effect when doing this, there is never any risk of tipping or falling.
For me, an even more appealing attribute is the fact iClever’s wireless speaker does not require clunky batteries and comes with a built-in 500mAh Lithium polymer battery. My only gripe is the lack of a battery charging light indicator. It’s always a guessing game as to how much juice is left either before, during or after charging. According to iClever, however, you should get eight- to 12 hours of playback after a full charge.
iClever’s wireless speaker also includes a microphone that offers the ability to take and receive phone calls. It’s a convenient feature with mixed results. Although hearing your caller’s voice is clear and better than those coming from any smartphone speaker, I had to stand fairly close to the wireless speaker’s microphone. Standing more than a few feet away from the microphone made it difficult for my callers to hear me adequately.
This one small issue aside, I strongly recommend looking into this wireless speaker if you are looking for such a device.
